Miya Behrmann, a student at Sellwood Studio of Performing Arts in Madison, won 1st place in the Children’s Musical Theatre category at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Student Auditions singing competition that was held on June 27-29, 2024 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Having advanced through multiple levels of auditions, both Behrmann and fellow Sellwood Studio student Scarlett Sellwood were NSA National Semifinalists and were adjudicated to be one of the top 15 singers in their age and level of training category (Children’s Musical Theatre and Youth Musical Theatre, respectively) from over 1,000 national preliminary entries. This year’s national semifinal auditions featured more than 400 student-singers.

The top 3 student-singers in each of this year’s 35 NSA categories advanced from semifinals to national finals. After the semifinal round in Knoxville, Behrmann qualified for the finals and went on to win the top prize of $800.

Starting November 2nd, Sellwood Studios is kicking off our holiday-themed theater club on Saturdays. What a great way to get into the festive spirit and brush up on your acting skills!

This class, open to students in grades 1st-5th, will run Saturdays from 1-3pm on 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, 11/23 and on Friday 12/6 4-6pm,
ending with a performance on Saturday 12/7 at 5pm.

*There is also time to join in on the fun in the other group classes with our “mid-season jump-in”
