The Sellwood Studio of Performing Arts is a specialist voice studio created by Broadway and West End performer, Tom Sellwood.
We provide private tuition, performance and audition coaching, group classes, summer camps and Broadway workshops all in Madison NJ. The Sellwood Studio is suitable for all ages, from young children exploring the fun world of singing in group settings to adults pursuing professional careers and needing coaching for the next big audition. Learn singing, acting, presentation skills, audition technique and more in a friendly, fun manner with Broadway and West End leading man, Tom Sellwood and his excellent team of professional teachers and vocalists.

With a long, successful career encompassing leading roles throughout the US, Broadway and London’s West End, Tom can help you find your best performance to help you book that job. This will be a fun, very supportive experience and will include time for really addressing the material, bringing it to life and also finding more additional songs that suit you.

Student In The Spotlight
Becca Axler—age 12.
Becca Axler is in seventh grade at Madison Junior School. She has been taking private lessons with Tom Sellwood for almost two years, and enjoyed various other Sellwood Studio group and summer classes before that. She is thrilled to have recently been cast in the title role in the Madison Junior School production of Peter Pan, Jr., set to be performed outdoors at the end of April, 2021. Last year, she was cast as Genie in the MJS production of Aladdin, Jr., but, unfortunately, the show was canceled due to Covid. She always loves performing with the Spotlight Kids Company, having appeared in numerous SKC musicals, plays, and cabarets since 2016, including in the role of Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods, Jr. When she’s not rehearsing or performing, Becca enjoys doing activities with her Girl Scout troop, playing soccer and softball, and playing with her bearded dragon.
Meet Our Teachers

Chelsea Friedlander
Chelsea Friedlander has an exciting and extensive career of leading roles in both opera and light opera. She has been seen on stage with Ohio Light Opera, Nashville Opera, Opera On The James, Light Opera Of New Jersey, and more. Ms. Friedlander’s other career highlights have included performances with New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, Opera in the Ozarks, Saratoga Opera, Light Opera of New York, and Martina Arroyo’s Prelude to Performance.
A New Jersey native, Ms. Friedlander holds a M.M. from Manhattan School of Music and B.M. from the Cleveland Institute of Music in Vocal Performance. Ms. Friedlander specializes in navigating healthy vocal technique with young children and song interpretation.

Lauren D'Imperio
A true and natural crossover, Lauren can sing anything from Bach to Broadway, pop and rock music. In her professional career as a singer, Lauren has had the opportunity to sing at Carnegie Hall, the Theatre at MSG, NJPAC, PNC Bank Arts Center, the Stone Pony and more. She has toured the East Coast several times, as well as abroad in London and Europe. She is also a songwriter (ASCAP) and vocal arranger. Currently, Lauren freelances across the Tristate area as a session singer and vocalist, and is the lead singer of Madison based band Running Late. Here at the Sellwood School of the Arts, she teaches all levels of voice and beginner piano. She has a B.A. in Communication and Digital Media from Montclair State University, and is completing her B.M. In Music Education/Classical Voice from William Paterson University. Paige Porter
Paige sings opera, jazz, and theater in the tri-state area, and runs a choir out of Morris County with her husband who is also a Westminster alumnus. She has a Batchelor of Music degree from the prestigious Westminster Choir College, and a Masters of Music from Manhattan School of music. She has extensive private teaching experience, with students of all ages.
