Sellwood Studio of Performing Arts has highly qualified teachers with extensive professional performing careers (Broadway to the Metropolitan Opera). Our students win nationally recognized voice competitions and get lead roles in school, youth, community and professional productions.
We hold multiple recitals annually and are accredited by the National Association Of Teachers Of Singing.
Tom Sellwood
Tom is the Principal of Sellwood Studio. His mission is to bring the highest quality coaching to Madison and the surrounding area. Tom's Broadway and West End experience puts him in a unique position to bring together the best techniques, coaches and contacts to ensure his students get the very best training.
Tom has had an extensive career singing and acting leading roles across the world including London’s West End, Broadway, National Tours and throughout the US and the UK.
Amongst his many notable roles, favorites include Raoul in ‘Phantom of the Opera’, Clifford Bradshaw in ‘Cabaret‘, the title role in ‘Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and even Frank Sinatra in ‘Sentimental Journey’.
He has created roles such as ‘Charles’ in ‘Napoleon’, ‘Big Macca’ in ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘King Lot’ in Pendragon on Broadway and ‘Brent Tarleton’ in Sir Trevor Nunn’s ‘Gone With The Wind’.
He is an award winning audiobook narrator.
Tom brings a wealth of Broadway and Westend singing experience to the community of Madison, New Jersey.
John Ertman
John is a professional writer, director, and actor based in New York. John has written two musicals, Alone (American Music Theatre Project, Concept Album) and Mews (Commissioned in 2023 by The Tank) with collaborator, Joseph Mathusek.
He has independently produced three pop albums: The Abbey Road Live Session, Idle Growth, and Reality and has had his work performed at venues such as 54 Below and The Bedford. In addition, his music has been recorded at acclaimed studios including Abbey Road, Power Station NE, and The Bridge.
John is an award winning director of immersive theatre, internationally recognized by critics for his innovative approach. Selected awards include: Best New Media Award (Lonely Wolf UK 2023), Audience Choice for Best Interactive Experience (FIVARS 2021), and 4x Critics’ Picks for Best Interactive Theatre (Medium/No Proscenium 2020-2022).
As a performer, John originated a role in Fifty-Seven at APAP in 2023 and led The Mosquitical as Newman at NYMTF. John earned a B.A. in Communications from Northwestern University, where he majored in Theatre and was a member of the inaugural class of the Music Theatre Writing & Composition program. John is also a student of several established composers including Mark Hollmann (Urinetown), Masi Asare (Paradise Square), Craig Carnelia (Working), and Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop).
Deborah Williams
Deborah has had an extensive career culminating with thirteen seasons with the world renowned Metropolitan Opera. She has sung in every major concert hall in New York.
Her career with the New York City Opera spanned twenty-four years and included works that ranged from Broadway and Operetta to Wagner including many appearances on PBS’s Live from Lincoln Center.
Deborah has worked with such Broadway greats as Rebecca Luker, Susan Stroman, Paul Gemignani, Eric Stern, Scott Ellis, Karen Ziemba and Tony Roberts, among others. Her touring resume includes ten national and international tours of both musical comedies and operas.
As a keyboard artist,she was awarded the Paderewski Medal by the National Association of Teachers of Piano.
Deb has a Bachelor of Voice Performance degree from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and Master of Music Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University. She is currently the Music Director at the Church of St. Rita on Staten Island.
Samantha Lax
Soprano Samantha Lax has received praise for her "winning voice & scene-stealing charm." Making a career in opera, Samantha has been seen on stage with Indianapolis Opera, St. Petersburg Opera, OperaDelaware, Light Opera of New Jersey, Baltimore Concert Opera, and more. She is also a busy choral musician, singing with multiple New Jersey based ensembles as well as the Princeton/Philadelphia based recording ensemble, The Same Stream.
Samantha holds her Master of Music from New England Conservatory and her Bachelor of Music from Westminster Choir College. As a performer, Samantha specializes in contemporary British and American repertoire but has a soft spot for musical theatre. She, along with her family raises puppies for the Seeing Eye and is always happy to see dog photos.
Ashley Adler
Ashley is a Drama Desk nominated actress, award winning singer & voice actor. Her voice can be heard in over 75 TV and radio commercials, as well as videogames, animation, trailers, award shows, audiobooks, promos, dubbing foreign films, e-learning, and documentaries. She has voice-matched over 25 celebrities for films, videogames, toys, theme park rides and more. She works with Marvel, Disney & Pixar on a regular basis in a variety of mediums.
She can currently be heard as Eliza in Final Fantasy: War of the Visions, Thelos (the Sun God) in Atlas Fallen, and as the Narrator of Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Ashley music experience spans from being a professional opera singer to singing in rock bands.
She’s performed Off-Broadway & regionally in musicals and operas at NYC Town Hall, NY City Center, Wolftrap Opera, Liederkranz Opera, the Hollywood Bowl, the Greek Theatre and has worked frequently with both iconic New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players and the revered Folksbiene- National Yiddish Theatre. She also toured the nation with an award-winning one person show about Anne Frank.
She has recorded, sung & performed with many bands, including The acclaimed Eagle Rock Gospel Singers, (who she recorded 3 albums with and had many of their songs placed in TV and film), the klezmer band Mostly Kosher, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob) & the Hi-Seas, Rah Rah Rabbit, Ali Angel, legendary drummer Bernard Purdie, The Ateliers, Bearded Band and many others.
She is a graduate of the Acting conservatory at SUNY Purchase and studied voice privately at Manhattan School of Music with legendary Metropolitan Opera star Ashley Putnam.

Candi Boyd
Candi Boyd is an internationally known Broadway, TV, film and commercial
actress, choreographer and director from
NYC! She spent 10 years on Broadway in "Jersey Boys" and has performed it all around the world, in countries like Turkey & Mexico, playing every female role in the show! She's also performed at the Super Bowl, the NBA All-Star Game and the Tony Awards!
In addition to her time on stage, Miss Candi is a well known tv/film actress, recently being seen as Coach Desjardin in "Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin" and Attorney Sarah Flynn on "Law and Order", as well as roles on "Pose", "Quantico", "Awkwafina is Nora from Queens", and others.
She's also been in over 50 commercials! She can currently be spotted selling Cooked Perfect Meatballs, VC Furniture and Cars from Planet Honda!
Finally, Miss Candi loves voice overs! She is the voice at the Singapore Zoo, as well as voicing 2 characters on the animated show "Taffy" and overdubbing dozens of foreign films into English.
Miss Candi loves kids and loves teaching and is always amazed by the creativity and openness kiddos bring to her classes! She has been a teacher for 13 years and the kids at Sellwood are always the brightest and most enthusiastic! She can't wait for another great year!
Paige Porter
Paige sings opera, jazz, and theater in the tri-state area, and runs a choir out of Morris County with her husband who is also a Westminster alumnus.
She has a Batchelor of Music degree from the prestigious Westminster Choir College, and a Masters of Music from Manhattan School of music.
She has extensive private teaching experience, with students of all ages.
Kelley Meyer Browning
Kelley Meyer Browning is a registered teacher (TCRG) with the Irish Dance Commission in Dublin, Ireland having successfully passed the rigorous two-day, five-part practical and written examination in 2017. She studied Irish Dance with the Griffith Academy in Connecticut for thirteen years. During her competitive career, she was a six-time undefeated New England Champion, a regular top-ten National placement holder, and annual World Championship qualifier beginning at the young age of eight. While at the Griffith Academy, Kelley also studied ballet, tap, and jazz with Broadway-trained instructors, and danced in annual and seasonal performances that highlighted traditional technique, modern blending of dance forms, and the importance of movement and song as a form of expression, storytelling and human connection.
Kelley began her professional Irish Dance career at 18 years old as a cast member of Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance Troupe 4 (Disney EPCOT) and Troupe 2 (touring group) where she performed in theaters, amphitheaters, and stadiums throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Brazil. Fulfilling a promise to her family, she left LOTD after two years to enroll at the University of Connecticut where she received her BA in Finance. Kelley continued to dance and teach while living in Manhattan and Los Angeles. Highlights of her time in LA include performing with Cleary Irish Dance at Sony Studios for an unaired episode of Shark Tank and collaborating with choreographers Mandy Moore and KC Monnie to create an Irish Dance number for Shania Twain’s 2018 comeback tour and eventual Las Vegas residency.
Kelley lives in Madison with her husband, Larry, and their three children Desmond, William, and Grace.
Emily McNamara
Emily McNamara was recognized by Time Out New York as one of the “top ten local women every[one] should know—and be obsessed with.”
New York performing credits include: A Musical About Star Wars, NEWSical The Musical, The Awesome 80’s Prom (also co-wrote), My Big Gay Italian Wedding, My First Time, The Karaoke Show, and Around The World In 80 Days.
Regional favorites: Gettin' The Band Back Together at George Street Playhouse (also co-wrote), Little Shop Of Horrors, Fiddler On The Roof, Dreamgirls, Godspell, Smokey Joe's Cafe, and Chicago.
Emily performs regularly as a host, singer, and comic at venues all over NYC. She recently co-starred on the HBO drama Vinyl, produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger. Other TV: Sex And The City and Billy On The Street. Emily is the lead singer for 80's tribute band, White Wedding Band, 90's tribute band, Uncle Jesse, and The Broadway Project Band. Emily loves teaching performing arts to students of all ages and particularly has a blast at Sellwood Studios!
Cornelia Lotito
She has a M.M. in Vocal Performance from University of Tennessee, 2021 and a B.M. Vocal Performance Montclair State University, 2018.
Dianna Marie Barger
Dianna Marie Barger is a seasoned Broadway performer and educator with a passion for musical theatre. Her extensive career spans over 12 years, during which she has garnered acclaim for her versatile performances across various Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional productions.
Dianna's Broadway credits include notable roles in "Soul Doctor" and "A Beautiful Noise:The Neil Diamond Musical." She has also showcased her talent in Off-Broadway hits suchas "Jersey Boys" and "Soul Doctor." Her regional and touring credits further highlight her abilities, with performances in “Jersey Boys”, "Rock of Ages," "Hairspray," "Cinderella," "Peter Pan," and "Sweet Charity."
Beyond her successful performing career, Dianna is a dedicated educator, sharing her expertise and love for musical theatre with aspiring performers. She has taught extensively at prestigious institutions such as Broadway in Motion and RWS Creative Studios.
Dianna holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Musical Theatre from Pennsylvania State University. Her academic background coupled with her extensive professional experience equips her with a comprehensive understanding of the industry, performance techniques, and the artistry of musical theatre. Dianna continues to influence and shape the next generation of musical theatre talent, instilling in them a passion for the stage and dedication to excellence.
Paige Faure
Paige Faure is a theatre maker and performer in NJ/NYC. Her Broadway credits include A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, the latest Tony-winning revival of Company, the title role in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Miss Saigon, Bullets Over Broadway starring Zach Braff, and How To Succeed in Business… featuring Daniel Radcliffe. She’s toured internationally with five other Broadway shows, premiered new works regionally at The Old Globe, Papermill Playhouse, The REV and the Kennedy Center, and has, most recently, created choreography for The Rev Theatre’s 2024 production of Jersey Boys. She will also be a part of the choreography team for the upcoming A Beautiful Noise national tour. Paige has an eleven year old son, Hank, is an advocate for parenting as a creative/performer, and is a Yoga Ground-certified and passionate yoga instructor. She also teaches for Little Apple Arts and Sellwood Studios in NJ, and coaches musical theatre students of all ages
Larysa Maliutina
Larysa Maliutina is a Ukrainian pianist and piano teacher. She is a graduate of Gnessin Academy of Music, University of Connecticut. Currently she is working on a Professional Studies Diploma at the New School - College of the Performing Art - Mannes with Professor Pavlina Dokovska.
Larysa has won top prizes in international competitions and has participated in master classes and musical festivals around the world. As a performer Larysa has appeared at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and at the New School's Tishman Auditorium.
She has concertized a soloist, chamber musician, collaborator, and orchestral pianist. She also has conducted research in the fields of music theory, performance practice and the areas of piano pedagogy and educational psychology.
